As mentioned in my recent posts, layoffs are climbing at a record rate. Hundreds of thousands of people are being laid off. Just in January 2008, our Fed Government has stated that over 17,000 people lost their jobs, nation wide.
You find yourself at the “fork” in the road and finally are open to the possibilities….or dive into deep depression! Things do not have to be as bad as you perceive, which is all it is, perception. If you look at how the company you work for, or used to work for started, I will just bet you that it was not easy. Thus, your path to a new career, equally, will not be easy either. When I was young lad, I was told that “hard times builds character.” I never really knew what my role models meant by that until I got much older. Long story short, you need to work hard and smart to make your own way in life. Being a workaholic helps only if you channel all this energy into a positive and organized mindset. That is the main secret of all success.
If you trace the lives of Ross Perot, Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Donald Trump, etc., you will find the common thread….the ability to work hard and smart, to have the strongest convictions in what you believe in and just “do it,” as Philip Knight, CEO from Nike tells us. Don’t be fooled that all these billionaires got to where they were because they have all these hand picked, hard working, talented people behind them. To a certain extent, it is true, but the real secret lies in the one man, or woman who had that billion dollar “thought” and worked hard and smart to make things happen. They were all workaholics.
If you do not consider yourself a workaholic, come on over to the party. Being a workaholic is fun! In order to survive in 2008 and beyond, you can’t afford not to be a workaholic. Forget about “lazy way to riches,” “the simple man’s formula to success,” etc. Don’t kid yourself, be proud and start by getting the proverbial pad and pen and start planning out your dreams and strategy to get there.
